YNAB 3 will soon be released.

This program has changed the way I handle my money. I highly recommend it. Way more useful that Microsoft Money or Quicken. It actually encourages you to make changes in the way you spend and save in the future, not just keep track of how you blew your budget in the past.

Have you tried Mint.com? I wonder how similar these are. Mint has been very helpful to us in the past few months.

I just signed up for mint.com based on your suggestion. It looks interesting, but not much different from many of the other options out there. It, like Microsoft Money and Quicken, seems to be a glorified check book balancing system. The reason I like YNAB is that it is fundamentally a budgeting tool. YNAB changes the way you think about money, and it is future looking budgeting, not backwards looking. Best I can tell Mint, like Money and Quicken bases your budget on what you enter for the month, and if you blow it you blow it with no ramifications. YNAB won't let you budget a lie like that... it implements envelope budgeting... see the discussion on mint's own forums: http://forums.mint.com/showthread.php?t=769
